What metals do you use for your jewelry?
What metals do you use for your jewelry?
At OJANĀ, each piece of jewelry is crafted from recycled precious metals – noble and durable metals to enhance each creation:
- Vermeil (gold vermeil) : 925 sterling silver plated with a thick layer of 18-karat gold (5 microns), combining brilliance and longevity.
- 925 Sterling Silver: a precious, pure, and luminous metal, ideal for natural elegance.
- 750/1000th gold or 18 karats: renowned for its quality, its durability as a precious metal.
All our jewelry is manufactured according to ethical standards and in respect of traditional know-how.
What's the difference between vermeil and gold-plated?
What's the difference between vermeil and gold-plated?
The difference lies in the quality of the metals used and the thickness of the gold deposited:
- Vermeil is made of 925 sterling silver covered with a thick layer of 18 carat gold (minimum 5 microns). It is a precious metal, more durable and noble than gold plating.
- Gold plating, on the other hand, is often applied to a non-precious base metal such as brass or copper, with a thinner layer of gold (1 to 3 microns generally).
Vermeil is a precious metal, designed to last.
Are the gemstones used certified?
Are the gemstones used certified?
Our fine gemstones are not accompanied by individual certificates, as is the case for diamonds.
However, they are rigorously selected for their natural quality, brilliance, and traceability, from partners committed to an ethical and responsible approach, particularly those certified by the RJC. We collaborate with suppliers in India and Sri Lanka, renowned for their expertise in gemmology.
Nevertheless, for our precious gemstones, a certificate of authenticity is provided with your jewellery. This document attests to the nature, quality, and origin of the stone, and guarantees its traceability.

How do I prevent my jewelry from tarnishing?
How do I prevent my jewelry from tarnishing?
Oxidation is a natural phenomenon, but a few simple steps can help limit it.
After each use, gently clean your jewelry with a soft cloth to remove residue and perspiration marks.
Store it in its supplied storage pouch (anti-tarnish), in a dry place, away from moisture and air.
The presentation box is ideal for gifting or protecting the jewelry upon receipt, but it is not recommended for prolonged storage, as a closed environment can promote the natural oxidation of metals.
What are the mistakes to avoid?
What are the mistakes to avoid?
Many mistakes accelerate the wear and tear of jewelry. Leaving your jewelry exposed to the open air promotes oxidation and tarnishing, and prolonged exposure to light, dust, or humidity can alter the color and luster of precious metals.
Avoid storing your jewelry in the bathroom or in plastic boxes, as this can accelerate tarnishing.
Do not pile them up: contact between several pieces creates micro-scratches, can deform your jewelry, and accelerate oxidation.
To preserve their shine and shape, store each piece of jewelry separately in its pouch or jewelry box, away from air, humidity, and direct light.
Anti-humidity tip: slipping a small sachet of silica gel into your jewelry box helps absorb excess moisture.
